Course Overview & Aims
The Weightlifting Ireland level 1 Coaching qualification prepares learners with the fundamental understanding of the technical competencies of the weightlifting movements, Snatch, Clean and Jerk. As well as the delivery skills of effecive communication, problem solving and delivery of fundamental technical skills to beginner athletes. Technical skills will include safety, technique, and basic strength training principles.
This course serves as a stepping stone to higher levels of weightlifting certification and strength coaching
Learners will show a broad range of knowledge of weightlifting movements and communication strategies to correct common technical faults, as an independent coach within a weightlifting training and competition environment. It is suitable for those with a fundamental understanding of weightlifting movements, and technical concepts and who are looking to begin delivery of coaching to small group, and beginner athletes.
Learners, upon completion will also be eligible for a "coach license" granting access to the field of play, including warm up and competition areas, in Weightlifting Ireland events, should they complete all additional safeguarding and vetting requirements.
Pathway Phase:
This course serves as a foundation for teaching the learning to play and practice phases of LTAD, for children, and as needed in our sport, the necessary demands for safe participation at all ages, as they start lifting.
QQI Alignment
- These will be assessed to a moderately broad skill proficiency, in line with the Weightlifting Ireland technical model, coaching competencies, and corrective strategies for beginner athletes.
- Learners will learn how to coach under a limited range of contexts of training and competition environments, as delivered by Sport Ireland tutors.
- Learners will act with limited autonomy alongside peer coaches and mentors, under the guidance of Sport Ireland tutors, and procedures.
